Hauptmann Helmut Krüger earned the German Cross in Gold on October 8, 1943 with Grenadier-Regiment 17 and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on October 31, 1944 as Major und Kommandeur of the I. Bataillon/ Grenadier-Regiment 17 of the 31. Volksgrenadier-Division.
