In a very good near mint condition a stunning and extreme hard to find US WW2 FSSF V-42 Stiletto Fighting Knife.
The V-42 stiletto is a fighting knife that was issued during World War II to the First Special Service Force (1st SSF or FSSF, also known as Devil's Brigade), a joint American/Canadian commando unit.
The V-42 was primarily designed by officers of the FSSF, including its commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Robert T. Frederick, who desired a close-quarters combat knife. The blade's design has been attributed to Col. Frederick, who had seen the Fairbairn–Sykes fighting knife while serving in Britain.
The V-42 was manufactured in the United States by W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. After a series of leg injuries incurred during training, the original leather sheath was reinforced with metal in later versions designed to prevent the needle-like tip from penetrating the sheath. Since the force was originally trained for fighting in cold weather, the sheath was designed long, so as to hang beneath the bottom of a G.I. parka.
This example comes in a near mint condition with a stunning supple leather sheath that has only light traces of age not of wear.
The Knife is nicely maker marked by Case just underneath the crossguard and comes with the intact needle-like tip and skull crusher on top op the grip.
These knives are extremely hard to find and only 3000 were produced by the Case Factory during WW2!
The V-42 is a legendary knife that today is an enduring symbol of the most elite of the U.S. Army. No article of equipment is as synonymous with the First Special Service as their V-42 Fighting Knife. The item comes from my own collection!
