Japanese Imperial Navy Flag 170x225cm
In a very good condition a rare Japanese Imperial Navy Flag.
The cotton flag came from the estate of a US Marine that took the flag from the US Consulate in Shanghai China in 1945.
The US consulate was located at the Glen Line Building at the Bund no.28 /Beijing Road in Shanghai.
The building was sold to Japanese just before the occupation of Northern China by the Japanese after a fiers and hard fight.
During the war it was used as the embassy of nazi-germany and the Japanese bank on the lower floors.
After the occupation of Germany (When the german flag was raised daily) the Japanese used this large naval flag on top of the building till there caputilation.
The flag comes in a size of 170x225 cm and is completly hand made!
It has some small moth damage but overal a very rare hard to find large Japanese 'Rising Sun' Naval flag.
The flag comes with the wooden reinforcement on the pole side and is nicely marked with the japanese text ( Says No.4)
Possiblity is that this flag was used by the Japanese Navy Special Landing Force no.4 who conquered Shanghai in 1937.
Nevertheless a stunning large historical flag of the WW2 Japanese Navy!!
