US M2 D-bale Combat helmet 1/508th PIR
In a very nice condition a US M2 D-bale Combat helmet of the 1st Battalion 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (82nd Airborne Division).
During WW2 McCord produced about 20 million M1 helmet shells just 392,000 of those were made as the paratrooper M2 version.
These helmets have a typical design flaw any pressure put on the loops, would often cause them to break at the welding points.
This example features an original field repair. both loops have been broken and contains re-welded fixed bale loops to the original welding points.
One fixed bale loop is after the repair also broke down.
The helmet shell comes with a stunning flat surface on the outside with 80% of the original green D-bale paint.
It has on the sides the HH marking indicating use by the 1st Battalion 508th PIR and indicates the initials of the commander of the 1st battalion Harry Harrison.
Next to the paint is clearly visible that the helmet was used by an NCO, indicating the NCO bar on the reverse side.
The productionnumber of the M2 helmet shell is clearly visible 226C.
A very nice helmet shell that shall look great with a stunning inland liner!
