French WW2 Capitulation plaque Reims 1945
In a very good condition a hard to find French WW2 Capitulation plaque Reims 1945.
French-made plaque that comes in a size of approx 15cm in diameter and featuring a finely detailed image of a schoolhouse at the center with the American, British, French, and possibly the Netherlands flags at the corners, and the text: ‘CAPITULATION DU REICH', a peace dove flying above and gripping an olive branch in its beak. The border also reads ‘REIMS 1945' and displays scrolls with the text: May 8th, 1945 France – Little Red School House'.
The ‘Little Red School House' was the headquarters of General Eisenhower in Reims France where the surrender documents were signed. It is reported that these items were constructed from German shell casings and sold as souvenirs to the liberating soldiers.
A very nice hard to find plaque!
