Fregattenkäpitan Erich Topp earned the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on June 20, 1941 as Oberleutnant zur See und Kapitän of Uboot “U-552”, the oakleaves on April 11, 1942 as Kapitänleutnant und Kapitän of Uboot “U-552” and the Schwertern on August 17, 1942 as Kapitänleutnant und Kapitän of Uboot “U-552”.
