SS-Hauptsturmführer Karl-Heinz Ertel earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on August 23, 1944 as SS-Hauptsturmführer und Adjutant of the SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 49 “De Ruyter” of the SS-Freiwilligen-Panzer-Grenadier-Brigade “Nederland”.
